Pillowcase Dresses.
Pillowcase dresses date back to at least a hundred years ago (more than likely your great grandmother or even grandmother wore one.) They originated in a time where everything had value. Often times if one set of pillowcases wore out or got a stain on it, the other was re-purposed into a dress. They were also great, because size-wise they lasted two or three years, as the straps could be adjusted to fit the girl. I like to think that in this time of recession, we are treasuring all we have, and that is why I like to find vintage articles to make my dresses. If you would like a dress made from brand new fabric I can do that upon request. If not, all of the dresses you see here will be from vintage pillowcases, curtains, tablecloths, etc. If you would like your own article transformed into a dress, please contact me.
With all of my pillowcase dresses, I add separate elastic to the front and back of the dress to give it the gathered look. Rest assured that I do not thread my material directly through the front and back of the dress, which could potentially be a choking hazard. My straps are added separately, and do not tie in any way around the neck.
